What's actually included in InkMagnet's one price (and what other tools bill separately)

A $67 or $29/month ad rarely covers a finished book. What InkMagnet bundles into one price, and where BookBaby, Sqribble and Squibler add the rest as separate charges.

September 18, 2026

Several small blank kraft-paper parcels of different sizes scattered unopened on a writer's desk, each tied with plain string and an unmarked paper tag, with one deep indigo ribbon binding all of them together into a single closed bundle

A $67 “one-time” ebook tool and a $9.99 InkMagnet book look like they’re competing on the same line in a comparison table. They aren’t, once you look past the first screen. The $67 tool usually charges for a template filler and stops there: a 3D cover option, extra template packs and a “find you clients” add-on show up as separate upsells the moment you land on the thank-you page. The InkMagnet number is the total you pay, not the entry point to a checkout flow with three more offers behind it. Here is what that difference actually looks like, line by line, using current market rates rather than the marketing page’s own claims.

What the sticker price doesn’t say

BookBaby’s ebook conversion package starts at $299, and that figure covers only the conversion itself. Interior formatting is a separate $149. A custom cover runs $199 to $699 on top of that. An ISBN adds $79. Embedded images bill at $3 each. Run a finished 200-page manuscript through the full stack, and support’s own worked example on their site lands around $1,176 total, for a book someone had already written before any of those charges started (rates checked September 2026).

Sqribble sells its base package at a discounted $67, loaded with 50 templates. Underneath that front-end price sit four separate upsells: Professional, unlocking 150 more templates; Prime, a monthly drip of new template packs; Fantasia 3D, the tool that turns a flat cover into the glossy 3D render most of the marketing screenshots actually show; and a job-finder add-on aimed at people reselling the service. The base $67 does not include that 3D cover tool. It’s a purchase of its own.

Squibler’s Plus plan runs $29.99 a month, Pro $89.99 a month. Both tiers generate an AI cover image, but reviewers are specific about what that means: it’s an illustration, not a print-spec book cover formatted for KDP or a printer, and the lower tier doesn’t export EPUB at all. Get the draft text and a cover picture out of a subscription like that, and a formatter or a cover designer is still a separate line item standing between you and a file you can actually sell anywhere.

None of this makes those tools dishonest. It’s the ordinary software playbook: a low anchor price up front, then modular add-ons priced separately for whatever the anchor didn’t cover. It just means the number printed on the pricing page and the number you actually pay for a finished, formatted, cover-ready book are two different numbers, and the gap between them rarely shows up until you’re already a customer.

What InkMagnet’s price is the total for

InkMagnet’s tiers run from $9.99 for a 30 to 45 page Compact book up to $34.99 for a 161 to 200 page Complete edition. That figure is what you pay, full stop, for all of the following:

  • Research: the engine reads live web sources on the topic before writing a single sentence, not from training-data memory alone.
  • Writing and review: every chapter is drafted, then checked against the others for consistency, not left as one unedited first pass.
  • Typesetting: a real book layout with a clickable table of contents, styled headings, drop caps and tables, instead of a Word document exported to PDF.
  • Illustrations: optional AI artwork generated per chapter when a topic calls for it, matched to the book’s language and region.
  • Cover: a designed, print-spec cover file, not a placeholder template you’re expected to customize yourself.
  • PDF and EPUB files: both formats included, ready to upload to KDP, a website or a customer’s inbox.
  • Full commercial rights: sell it, give it away as a lead magnet, publish it under your own name, effective the moment the file downloads.
  • Unlimited edits and recompiles: every book you’ve bought stays editable indefinitely, with no extra charge to regenerate the PDF or EPUB after a change.

There’s no second screen asking whether you’d like the cover as an add-on, and no tier where EPUB export sits locked behind a more expensive plan.

Running the same book through both models

Take a 120-page nonfiction guide, roughly 30,000 words, and price it the itemized way most tools actually bill it. A template-filling tool gets you a formatted shell for around $67, but the writing itself is still yours to produce, so a real edit follows: copy editing alone runs $0.021 to $0.04 a word at standard turnaround, which puts a 30,000-word manuscript at roughly $630 to $1,200 (rates checked September 2026). Add a custom cover in the realistic $300 to $800 range that most authors end up paying once they see the template options, plus interior formatting comparable to BookBaby’s $149 line item, and the itemized total for that same finished book lands somewhere between roughly $1,150 and $2,200, and EPUB conversion hasn’t entered the math yet.

InkMagnet’s Comprehensive tier, 116 to 160 pages, prices the equivalent scope at $27.99: written, reviewed, typeset, covered, and exported as both PDF and EPUB. That is a fraction of a single line item on the itemized version, let alone all of them added together.

The gap exists because InkMagnet was built as one pipeline rather than one entry-level tool plus a marketplace of specialists you assemble yourself afterward. The pipeline behind that price does the writing and the review together, the design system keeps every cover print-ready without a separate designer, and the file you download carries full ownership from the first minute, not after a rights transfer clause somewhere in a contract. See the complete tier breakdown, or the full itemized cost of building an ebook the traditional way if you want the rest of that math laid out. Or skip the spreadsheet entirely and start from your topic: the price you see on the page is the only price there is.
